Be wary of virus emails!

Turn IT On have been made aware that there are damaging viruses and ransom-ware spreading emails circulating our schools at the moment.
These viruses cause significant problems within schools and can take a significant period to recover from.

Here are a few simple steps you can take in order to protect yourself from viruses:

  • Ensure anti-virus protection is installed on all machines and kept up-to-date, ask your consultant about this on their next visit if your not sure how to do this.
  • Be extra cautious when opening emails and attachments. Some viruses can come from contacts you know (if they have been affected) whilst others come from external sources such as airlines and travel companies or ‘My CV’ emails and invoices.
    • If you receive an email with a suspicious looking or unexpected attachment (such as  PDF’s, zipped files or images) do not open the attachments, if you open an attachment that asks for log in details don’t enter them and delete the email.
    • Don’t follow any links to websites that you are unsure of or unfamiliar with.
  • Please report any virus infections to the Turn IT On helpdesk: 01865 597620 option 1 and shut down the machine immediately to prevent the virus spreading.

If you are concerned about any emails you have received be sure to talk to your Turn IT On consultant during their next visit so they can look into the issue for you.
