Mental Health First Aider

In June Becky Tyler, one of our Human Resources Advisors, attended a 2-day Adult Mental Health First Aid Workshop to become a Mental Health First Aider. Today is World Mental Health Day and Becky talks us through what is involved in being a Mental Health First Aider.

I completed my Mental Health First Aider course with MHFA in June. MHFA is a community interest company, working to increase mental health awareness and skills across society. Their range of courses are on offer to empower people to support their own mental health, and that of the people they connect with in life.

By me learning the facts about mental health and learning the skills to support wellbeing I can help turn IT on and its employees try to build a healthier community without stigma.

The course has taught me how to apply the skills required to support individuals and has made me more aware of the help available.

I am now able to:

  • Approach, Assess & Assist
  • Listen and Communicate non-judgmentally
  • Give support and information (not advise)
  • Encourage appropriate professional help
  • Encourage others support.

This is the ALGEE Action Plan

With the support of this course, I can help to implement health and wellbeing policies to enhance both the Companies and employees stance on mental health and offer a support network to those that need it.
