Roald Dahl Day

Today, Tuesday 13th September, is Roald Dahl Day and schools across the country are celebrating 100 years since the author’s birth.

At 2pm this afternoon Puffin are broadcasting an exciting show of birthday treats on the Virtually Live website. The Roald Dahl Party, suitable for all Key Stage 2 students, will include a performance from the cast of Matilda the Musical, a draw-along with Quentin Blake, a debate to find Roald Dahl’s most villainous villain, a trip behind the scenes of the summer blockbuster The BFG and the Word Wizards from the Oxford Roald Dahl Dictionary will be helping viewers to invent their own words just like Roald Dahl himself.Puffin live

Half an hour before the main broadcast The BFG audiobook, read by David Walliams will be broadcast to get you in the mood.

If your class want to be a part of the Roald Dahl party sign up for Puffin Virtually Live for free here and stream it straight into your classroom at 2pm today! Make sure you tweet @PuffinBooks with the hashtag #RoaldDahlParty to let everyone know your watching along!

To keep the spirit of Roald Dahl in the classroom beyond today the Educator magazine “Sweet Inventions Competition” opens today for all primary schools! To enter pupils need to step into the shoes of Willy Wonka and design a poster for a sweet or chocolate they have invented! All the details can be found here!

Here in the office we all fondly remember reading Roald Dahl’s books and plan to dig out a few of our favourites to re-read tonight – at the top of the list are Matilda, Esio Trot and Revolting Rhymes!
